Kim Peterson, CFRE — Founder, Cedar Fundraising

I started Cedar Fundraising because I kept seeing the same thing: organizations doing genuinely important work, but struggling to build the fundraising programs they needed to sustain it. Not because they lacked commitment — but because they lacked the systems, the strategy, or simply someone in their corner who understood both.

Before consulting, I spent years working in-house at small nonprofit teams doing a bit of everything. That's where I fell in love with the unglamorous stuff: databases, workflows, the infrastructure that makes everything else possible. I learned early that when your systems are broken, your fundraising suffers — no matter how good your relationships are. That's where my systems-first approach took root.

I'm a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE), and I've been consulting since 2021. In that time I've worked with a wide range of Canadian nonprofits — as a fractional fundraiser, building fundraising plans, and setting up the systems that help lean teams execute. My clients tend to be small-to-midsized organizations working in environmental stewardship, equity, and community.

Cedar Fundraising is intentionally small and one-on-one. When you work with me, you get me — someone who will learn your organization deeply, tell you the truth, and build something with you that fits.

I'm based in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
